49. Shaping Attractions:
Turning Our Magnetic Pull into Life Lessons (AKA—How to Stop Chasing Shiny Things and Start Loving with Purpose)
Attractions are like the playlists of our soul — you can tell a lot about someone by what’s on repeat. Some people keep hitting Sexy and Smart like it’s the only track they know. Others think they’re above it all, but really, they’re just playing “Self-Centered Activity” on loop.
Attractions are the magnetic threads that pull us into relationships, projects, and life lessons — sometimes with a satisfying hum of resonance, sometimes like a toddler dragging you toward the candy aisle.
When we’re unconscious, we often treat attractions like shiny objects: “That’s sexy!” “That’s smart!” “That’s strong!” We grab at them without asking why they matter and wonder later why we ended up in the wrong movie. Each Attraction reflects an element of our consciousness, so as we evolve, our Attractions change.
The Higher Alignment view? Every Attraction is a life lesson in disguise. When we’re unconscious, we treat them as short-term thrills or ego boosts. When we’re conscious, we see them as doorways to self-discovery, connection, and Co-Creative love.
Our Attractions don’t just influence who we choose — they define how we see ourselves as people. They’re the way we try on identities, test boundaries, and experiment with intimacy. Sometimes they lead us to our best selves. Sometimes they make us our own worst obstacle. Until we see ourselves, we cannot fully respond to others.
This article outlines all 12 Higher Alignment Attractions, organized into their four levels - Instinctive, Intellectual, Idealized, and Intuitive, progressing from feminine to masculine to unifying at each level.
What Drives Feminine, Masculine, and Unified Attractions?
Feminine Attractions are driven by the urge to hold space, connect authentically, and nurture growth. They seek trust, beauty, openness, and self-expression as pathways to connection.
Masculine Attractions are driven by the need to act effectively, protect, and produce. They value competence, strength, discernment, and results as the structure for intimacy.
The desire for a shared reality drives Unified Attractions — the place where safety, freedom, and empathy converge, allowing creativity to flourish. When you master either the feminine or masculine Attraction of a level, you invite the opposite, which generates a more comprehensive Unified Attraction. This occurs when the Attraction becomes a lesson to be learned.
Three Attractions at each of four developmental levels form the path of lessons to manifest our consciousness. The more we can integrate our Attractions, the more we empower and elevate them into an authentic, connected purpose.
We’ll follow Jeremy and Sophie, two bright, ambitious humans trying to dance their way from unconscious magnetism to conscious partnership. Along the way, we’ll look at what invokes feminine Attraction, what fuels masculine Attraction, and why the unifying or combined Attractions are the “adult table” of relationships.
Level One – Instinctive Attractions
Where we start: sexual chemistry, cleverness, and consistency. Sexual Chemistry unifies these three Attractions.
Feminine – Sexy
Sexy is the magnetism of vitality, beauty, and that certain zing you can’t quite explain. Instinctively, it’s a bid for approval and validation: “If they want me, I must be worth wanting.” Our need to be wanted is at the base of all role-playing. This is role-playing – so approval and validation are only skin-deep, resulting in emptiness. Consciously, it’s about celebrating life energy and appreciating the spark in another person without making it the defining aspect of the whole relationship. This is about expanding our Aliveness, in place of titillating excitement, jealousy, and possessiveness.
Lesson: Learn that physical allure is an entry point, not a lease agreement.
Attracts: Those who chase excitement and novelty.
Repels: People who distrust charm or fear losing control.
Masculine – Smart
Smart is the pull toward quick thinking, competence, and mental agility. In its reactive form, it’s about being seen as smart and playing the part so that others will defer to your apparent power. Consciously, it’s mental play, problem-solving, and shared ideas.
Lesson: Value intellect, without worshipping it.
Attracts: Individuals seeking security in knowledge.
Repels: Those who feel overshadowed by sharp minds.
Unifying – Reliable
Reliable is the comfort of dependability and stability. Unconsciously, it can turn rigid: “If it’s not predictable, I don’t trust it.” Consciously, it’s a safe base from which creativity can flourish. Many individuals rely on reliability in an unconscious bid for trust and safety.
Lesson: See reliability as a foundation, not a cage.
Attracts: Stability-seekers.
Repels: Freedom-lovers who fear routine.
Level Two – Intellectual Attractions
Moving beyond survival to self-definition and personal power. Defensive Chemistry unifies these three Attractions.
Feminine – Innocence
Innocence is openness, trust, and unguarded authenticity. Reactive Innocence can slip into naïveté, inviting hurt. Conscious Innocence is a wise choice to meet the world without unnecessary armor.
Lesson: Balance trust with discernment.
Attracts: Protectors and nurturers.
Repels: Cynics and skeptics.
Masculine – Strength
Strength is defined as resilience, capability, and the ability to hold steady under pressure. Reactive Strength can be dominant; Conscious Strength is the power to stand in truth and empower others.
Lesson: Be strong enough to be vulnerable.
Attracts: Those craving protection or leadership.
Repels: People intimidated by authority.
Unifying – Personal Autonomy
Personal Autonomy is the allure of self-direction. In its unconscious form, it’s the isolation or avoidance of teamwork so that the individual is always in control. We observe this in attempts to establish zones of security, often referred to as defenses. Consciously, it’s interdependence and teamwork that thrives in mutual esteem and respect. It generates a zone that influences radiating competence and a space of wholeness.
Lesson: Freedom and connection can coexist.
Attracts: Independent spirits.
Repels: Those seeking dependency.
Level Three – Idealized Attractions
The realm of meaning, identity, and emotional resonance. Romantic Ideals Chemistry unifies these three Attractions.
Feminine – Creative Self-Acceptance
This is the attraction to those who fully own and express their authentic self. Unconscious Creative Self-Acceptance can lead to overexposure or self-sabotage due to “upper limit” fears. Conscious Creative Self-Acceptance inspires mutual authenticity. This is often labeled as 'good boy' or 'good girl,' because it emphasizes their outer goodness and behavior by honoring expectations.
Lesson: Shine without burning yourself out or others down.
Attracts: People ready for depth.
Repels: Those threatened by unfiltered self-expression.
Masculine – Personality Self-Rejection
This is the attraction to those who resist being defined by their surface persona. Unconscious Personality Self-Rejection hides behind dismissiveness to avoid vulnerability. Conscious Personality Self-Rejection is a discerning process that strips away false identities to reveal the truth. This is tagged as being a bad boy or bad girl because they do not often conform to the status quo.
Lesson: Drop the mask without erasing your face.
Attracts: Substance-seekers.
Repels: Image-obsessed types.
Unifying – Personal Intimacy
The desire for deep empathy and emotional resonance. Unconscious Personal Intimacy becomes enmeshment; Conscious Personal Intimacy is mutual presence without losing self. Personal Intimacy generates a zone of influence of availability and transparency.
Lesson: True intimacy blends self-respect with mutual respect.
Attracts: Partners open to emotional transparency.
Repels: People are afraid of being seen.
Level Four – Intuitive Attractions
The “adult table” — where Life, Light, and Love integrate. This is Creative Chemistry.
Feminine – Universal Dominion (Wisdom)
The pull toward those who hold power as stewardship. Reactive Universal Dominion over-controls; Conscious Universal Dominion leads through service.
Lesson: Stewardship is the highest form of power.
Attracts: Co-stewards of the greater good.
Repels: Power-hoarders.
Masculine – Mutual Accomplishment (Aliveness)
This is the Attraction to shared achievement that energizes all involved. Reactive Mutual Accomplishment keeps score; Conscious Mutual Accomplishment is a generous collaboration.
Lesson: Success is better when it’s mutual.
Attracts: True collaborators.
Repels: Competitive saboteurs.
Unifying – Conscious Participation (Awareness)
This is the magnetism of fully engaged Co-Creative living. Reactive Conscious Participation overcommits; Conscious Participation is the sweet spot of presence and creative flow.
Lesson: Awareness is the ultimate aphrodisiac for creativity.
Attracts: Those ready to play at their highest.
Repels: Spectators of life.
Jeremy & Sophie’s Attraction Waltz
Jeremy leans into masculine attractions: Smart, Strength, and Personality Self-Rejection. Sophie dances in feminine attractions: Sexy, Innocence, and Creative Self-Acceptance.
At first, it’s fireworks — and occasional smoke damage.
Jeremy’s Smart turns Sophie’s Innocence into a quiz show she didn’t sign up for. One way to minimize attractions is to distance ourselves from them.
Sophie’s Sexy triggers Jeremy’s Personality Self-Rejection, making him withdraw to avoid feeling “played.” Another way is to challenge a partner to demonstrate in one way that they do not know how to do something.
Her Creative Self-Acceptance sometimes reads to him like showing off; his Personality Self-Rejection can look to her like unnecessary self-limiting.
When they work, it’s because they meet in the unified middle:
Reliability (Instinctive Unified) —they both trust their partner’s consistency.
Personal Autonomy (Intellectual Unified) — they each have room to breathe.
Personal Intimacy (Idealized Unified) — they sometimes risk being emotionally transparent.
The magic happens when Jeremy feels alive in his masculine — bringing energy, direction, and Aliveness — and Sophie responds in her feminine — reflective, wise, and open. Their creative projects soar because they’re not just building things; they’re building on each other’s possibilities.
Growth, Dualities, and Love
They begin to see:
Innocence and Strength aren’t opposites — vulnerability can be the ultimate strength.
Creative Self-Acceptance and Personality Self-Rejection mirror each other — one risks overexposure, the other risks invisibility.
Awareness emerges when Wisdom (feminine) and Aliveness (masculine) unite into Life, Light, and Love.
They choose to work on embodying the same attractions simultaneously to avoid Co-Dependence. It’s not perfect — sometimes old instinctive habits sneak in. But each time they shift from self-focused attraction (“Look how sexy/smart I am”) to mutual respect and esteem, they strengthen their capacity for Radiant, Self-Unifying Love.
Bottom Line:
Motives set the why, attractions set the who and what, and skills set the how.
In Higher Alignment, all three work together — or not. When polarized, they close us down. When conscious, they make us more than we could ever be alone.
This is just the first level, for there are 21 Higher Alignment Attractions identified.
